Although the hosting is currently free, this may not always be the case and there are some costs associated with running moms4mom. At the moment we have a few advertisements (including Google Adsense) and most are not seen by users with over 200 rep. In addition, we've become an Amazon affiliate, and if someone posts a link to an Amazon product in a question or answer, the software will insert our affiliate code. It also redirects you to your local Amazon store, if the product is available there.

How do people feel about our current initiatives?

Some other options could be:

1) Finding an organization or company who would like to sponsor the site
2) A donation button.
3) Moms4mom merchandise is another option.

Any thoughts on any of these options or perhaps other suggestions?

Great question Tammy.

These are just ideas that came from the top of my head, and actually require more thought but I think current initiatives are just "right" taking into account the time that moms4mom has been up and running. I think that it is certainly wise to start thinking about the points you have covered Tammy. I think that a donation button in the future could work well. Finding a sponsor may not be too difficult but I think that the sponsor credentials would need to overlap really well with those of moms4mom, I think that moms4mom has a really strong but subliminal message that needs to remain at the forefront. I do think that merchandise could be a great way of reinforcing the brand, if managed and developed in a way that enables localized production, and cost effective distribution.

Good point about the distribution. We'd have to go with a very large merchandising organization that was setup to ship (and hopefully produce) internationally, or else it would just be a pain for out out-of-US members (which includes us...)

Depending on start up quantities I believe that a reputable and well priced Sourcing firm could be more preferable than a larger organization. (I do believe that working with a country with a substantially sized textile sector would be both profitable and efficient.

As long as (decent) ads are bringing in enough money, I'm fine with that.

I would not be happy with a single sponsor posting large, obnoxious or obstructing ads.

Donation button: might work, but only if there is a clear monthly target and the progress is shown?

Merchandise: Might be problematic, as international shipping is always a deal-breaker.

"I would not be happy with a single sponsor posting large, obnoxious or obstructing ads." - We do have a very strict policy on any advertisers. Similar to StackOverflow, we don't accept animated or fly-overs (I've noticed a couple animated ones in the Adsense ads, so I'll have to look into that). If it's a place that sells parent related stuff, we don't allow them to talk up their stuff in an answer either.
